OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University hockey team fell to Minnesota Duluth 3-1 on Saturday night at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena.
PJ Fletcher scored for the second consecutive night for Miami (5-9-2, 0-7-1 NCHC).
Logan Neaton stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced. The Bulldogs improve to 5-8-4, 2-5-1 NCHC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 3:58 2nd (UMD 1-0) | After a scoreless first period, Blake Biondi collected the game's opening goal early in the second. Biondi won a faceoff in UMD's offensive zone, and Cole Spicer and Quinn Olson combined to work the puck out of the corner. Olson returned the puck to Biondi in the middle for the shot to make it 1-0 in favor of the visitors.
- 5:15 2nd (UMD 2-0) | The Bulldogs took advantage of an extra attacker on a delayed penalty to double their lead just over a minute later. Kyle Bettens sent the puck from the end boards to Ben Steeves, who found Joey Pierce at the right point. Steeves got a pass back from Pierce, skated to the top edge of the circle, and fired for a 2-0 UMD lead.
- 4:17 3rd (Miami 2-1) | Spencer Cox made a big hit at center ice to dislodge the puck and set up a goal for Miami. William Hallén picked it up and connected with John Waldron, who then delivered to Fletcher on the far side for a one-timer to pull the Red and White within 2-1.
- 19:49 3rd (UMD 3-1) | After Miami had an apparent game-tying goal overturned on video review midway through the third period, UMD held on for the victory. Luke Loheit scored an empty net goal with seconds left in the game to make it a 3-1 final. Loheit was assisted by Connor McMenamin and Owen Gallatin.
