CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Miami women's basketball closed 2023 with a 53-44 loss at Austin Peay on Saturday afternoon.
Lakresha Edwards led the way with 13 points for Miami (2-8), while Shamarre Hale had a game-high 18 for the Governors (7-7).
How it Happened:
- Austin Peay opened the contest with nine straight points before Katey Richason's layup made it 9-2 at the first media timeout. Miami closed out the quarter with a 6-2 run and trailed 11-8 after 10 minutes of play.
- The Governors once again took the lead at 21-17 with 31 seconds left in the half, but a three-point play from Jadyn Scott with one second left, sent Miami to the locker room trailing by just one, 21-20.
- After APU knocked in a pair of free throws to open the second half, Tretter's triple knotted the score at 23 apiece. The Governors answered with a 10-0 run over the next six minutes to claim a 33-23 advantage late in the third. Miami trailed 37-27 at the end of three quarters.
- Austin Peay opened the fourth quarter on an 11-4 run to take a 17-point advantage midway through the final stanza. Miami got as close 51-42 behind three triples from Edwards, but it wasn't enough in the comeback effort.
Game Notes:
- Katey Richason, who missed the last four contests, returned to the lineup, finishing with six points and six rebounds.
- Amber Tretter had her second-straight double-digit performance, finishing with 10 points.
- Miami finished the contest 4-of-20 from behind the arc, while Austin Peay was 7-of-18.
