Miami Falls at Michigan State, 89-44

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Lakresha Edwards and Núria Jurjo each scored a team-high nine points in an 89-44 loss to Michigan State. Jurio led Miami (1-4) with four assists and added seven rebounds. Michigan State (7-1) was led by Theryn Hallock's 17 points.
 
How it Happened:
  • A pair of three-point jump shots gave Miami a 6-0 advantage at the start of play. The Spartans answered with a 15-1 run to lead 15-7 with 3:11 left in the first quarter. Amber Tretter ended the Michigan State run with a couple of free throws to make the score 15-9. The RedHawks trailed 18-9 at the end of the first.
  • The Spartans opened the second quarter with a 14-0 run to lead 32-9 with 5:53 left before the intermission. The Red and White outscored Michigan State 7-3 after Hennessey Luu-Brown scored the final points of the half from behind the arc. The Spartans led 35-16 heading into the break.
  •  Edwards put in a three to open the third quarter. Jurio and Katey Richason each put in a couple free throws to bring the score to 38-23 with 6:45 left in the third. Shortly after, Edwards made her third shot from beyond the arc. Huhn and Jurjo added a couple late threes to trail 64-38 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Jurjo and Richason each scored a layup at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Spartans went on to secure an 89-44 victory.
 
Game Notes:
  • Jurjo recorded a career-high in both rebounds (seven) and assists (four).
  • Tretter led Miami with eight rebounds (career-high).
  • Miami shot over 50% from the three-point line for the first time this season.
