OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University swimming & diving team performed well on the first day of the Miami Invitational on Thursday, Nov. 30. The women's team ended the first day's finals in first place, scoring 318 points against eight other schools. The men's team placed second after day one with a score of 224. Other placements for the women's teams were Dartmouth College in second (232.5), and Indiana State University in third (217.5). Grand Canyon University (362) is currently in first for the men and Dartmouth is in third (193).
How It Happened:
- Finals for day one began with the 200-yard freestyle relay where the women took first place with a team of Kaylin Herbet, Honor Brodie-Foy, Julia Waechter and Nicole Maier with a combined time of 1:31.39. The men took second place with Gabriel Perseguin, Ian Kmiliauskis, Jack Herczeg and Henju Duvenhage finishing in 1:21.60.
- The RedHawks took a quick lead during the 500-yard freestyle with Maier in first (4:46.46), alongside Greta Kolbeck in fourth (4:52.53) and Erin Szczupakiewicz in fifth (4:57.75). The men also took a sixth-place finish with Bryce Menchhofer coming in at 4:38.87.
- The men's 200-yard IM had a first place finish from Duvenhage with a time of 1:46.26. The women had two top finishers, Herbet in second (2:01.50) and Ashley Sego in sixth (2:03.89).
- During the final individual event of the day Brodie-Foy placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.16 alongside Waechter in fourth with a time of 23.37. For the men, Kmiliauskis placed sixth with a time of 20.72.
- To conclude the swimming events for the day, the women came out first in the 400-yard medley relay with a team of Madeline Padavic, Herbert, McKenzie Reid, and Maier for a combined time of 3:38.54. The men came in second with Owen Blazer, Duvenhage, Perseguin, and Herczeg finishing in 3:14.92.
- The diving events for the day consisted of the women's 3-meter and men's 1-meter dive. For women, Sydney Rice placed second in the 3-meter dive scoring 282.80 points alongside Mia Meinhardt in eighth scoring 233.20 points. For men, Victor Hearn placed eighth, scoring 220.70 points.
