After a nine day layoff, the Miami University women's basketball team gets back to action by hosting Xavier on Monday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m.
NEW BEGINNINGS: Saturday will be just the fourth game for head coach
Glenn Box. Box was named the 10th head coach in Miami women's basketball history on May 8, 2023.
GREAT SCOTT: Senior
Jadyn Scott currently leads the team in scoring (14.0) and rebounding (6.7) and is second in assists (2.0). She has led the team in scoring in two of three games this season, including a career best 23 points at Louisiana at Monroe on Nov. 11.
IN WITH THE NEW: Head Coach
Glenn Box and his staff brought in eight new players for the 2023-24 campaign. Joining the RedHawks are four transfers and four freshmen, including one from Spain and two from Canada.
FRESHMEN IMPACT: Freshmen
Amber Tretter and
Maddy Huhn have found a way to quickly help the Red and White. In her collegiate debut, Tretter scored 10 points and added three rebounds. Huhn has scored 17 points over her last two games, including a career best nine against Western Kentucky.
ABOUT XAVIER: Xavier comes in to Millett Hall with an 0-5 record for an offense that averages 50.5 points per game. Mackayla Scarlett is tops on the team at 13.5 points per game, while Nila Blackford (played at Kent State from 2019-22) is averaging 9.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest.
SERIES WITH XAVIER: This will be the 20th meeting between the two schools with Miami holding an 11-8 all-time advantage. Xaver won last season's meeting, 87-68 in Millett Hall.
WESTERN KENTUCKY RECAP: Western Kentucky used a 39-11 third quarter to down Miami 63-43 last Saturday afternoon in Millett Hall.
Jadyn Scott scored 14 points and added seven rebounds for Miami.
PAINT THE TOWN RED: After recording just four second-chance points and 20 points in the paint in the season-opening loss to Vermont, Miami has flipped the script. Over the past two games, Miami has recorded 22 second-chance points and 58 points in the paint.
NEW IMPACT: Miami's newcomers have dominated the box score this season in points (131 of 151/87%), rebounds (74 of 80/93%), field goals made (51 of 59/86%) and minutes played (527 of 600/88%).
TOP RETURNER: Junior
Katey Richason entered the 2023-24 season as Miami's top returning scorer (3.9 points/game). After scoring in double-figures just three times in her first two seasons, Richason scored nine points at Vermont, battling foul trouble for most of the contest.Â
SISTER, SISTER: Twin sisters Jadyn and
Jada Scott were four-year letter winners for the Cincinnati Bearcats before joining Miami. The duo combined to play in 194 games in their career at UC. Last season Jadyn was eighth on the team in scoring (3.6), while Jada was 11th (1.8). In their first year with the RedHawks the duo ranks first and second for Miami in scoring.
BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE: After playing just 12 total minutes in the first two games of the season, junior
Cori Lard played 33 minutes versus Western Kentucky. Lard responded with four points and a career-best five steals.
