OXFORD, Ohio – Western Kentucky used a 39-11 third quarter to down the Miami University women's basketball team 63-43 on Saturday afternoon in Millett Hall.
Jadyn Scott scored 14 points and added seven rebounds for Miami (0-3), while Teresa Faustino led all scores with 17 points for WKU (4-1).
How it Happened:
- It was a defensive battle in the opening 10 minutes of the game as the two teams combined to shoot 3-of-23 from the field, but Miami led 6-5 entering the second quarter.
- Miami's defense continued to make things difficult for the Lady Toppers, holding WKU scoreless for the first 5:22 of the second quarter. A Jadyn Scott baseline jumper improved Miami's advantage to 10-5 midway through the second. After WKU trimmed the deficit to 12-9, Miami answered with a 6-0 run with a triple from Maddy Huhn and a bucket from Jadyn Scott to make it 18-9 with 38 seconds to play. Miami led 20-12 at the half.
- WKU knotted the score at 23-23 with an 11-2 run to begin the third, forcing a Glenn Box timeout with 6:46 left in the quarter. The Lady Toppers continued their third quarter run and led 31-23 midway through the third. Miami trailed 51-34 entering the fourth.
- Baskets from Huhn and Cori Lard slimmed WKU's advantage, 54-39, early in the final stanza, but the RedHawks could get no closer.
Game Notes:
- After playing just 12 total minutes in Miami's first two games, Cori Lard played 32 versus WKU. She recorded a career-high five steals.
- WKU was 1-for-18 from behind the arc in the first half and 8-of-14 in the second half.
- Maddy Huhn had a career-best nine points.
- Katey Richason matched her season-best with nine points.
