Miami Drops Series Finale at No. 2 North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — The Miami University hockey team fell 5-1 to No. 2/4 North Dakota Saturday evening in the teams' series finale. PJ Fletcher scored a goal for the second consecutive night for the RedHawks (4-7-1, 0-6-0 NCHC). Riese Gaber led the Fighting Hawks (9-2-1, 4-0-0 NCHC) with two goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 8:27 1st (UND 1-0) | Although Miami controlled the majority of play for the first portion of the game, the Fighting Hawks came up with the game's opening goal. Logan Neaton stopped a shot from Garrett Pyke, but Gaber was there waiting to tap home the rebound. Louis Jamernik V was credited with an assist on the play.
  • 10:56 1st (Miami 1-1) | The RedHawks responded with an equalizer just over two minutes later. Max Dukovac swiped a cross-ice pass attempt in Miami's defensive zone and raced the puck forward for a 2-on-1 break. Dukovac got tripped up but managed to keep his feet long enough to fire a shot on goal, and Fletcher promptly deposited the rebound in the net.
  • 14:53 1st (UND 2-1) | Griffin Ness gave the home team the lead back on a goal from the side wall, with Jackson Kunz and Dane Montgomery assisting. Ness flung the puck in front and it deflected off a RedHawk's stick and past Neaton.
  • 18:34 1st (UND 3-1) | After several dangerous scoring chances for the RedHawks (including a one-timer by Hampus Rydqvist on the power play and Michael Feenstra hitting the pipe with an even-strength shot a minute later), UND came up with an unassisted breakaway goal from Gaber to make it 3-1.
  • 19:56 1st (UND 4-1) | The Fighting Hawks stretched their lead in the final seconds of the frame, as Gaber tipped the puck away in neutral ice and slid it forward for Jackson Blake to retrieve. Blake drew a delayed penalty but was able to stay with the play and knock in a shot at the 19:56 mark.
  • 1:49 3rd (UND 5-1) | After neither team scored in the middle period, North Dakota's Jayden Perron added a goal early in the third. He finished a one-timer in front off a pass from Hunter Johannes at the end wall to stake UND to a 5-1 lead. Keaton Pehrson had the secondary assist for the home team.
