RedHawks Drop in Three Sets to Akron

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team lost a three-set match to the University of Akron Saturday evening at Millett Hall. The Zips won by a score of 25-16, 25-10, 25-14. The Red and White move to 5-24 (1-16 MAC) on the season, while Akron improves to 13-15 (8-9 MAC).

The RedHawks' final match of the regular season is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 15 at Bowling Green.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Akron claimed a 4-1 lead in the beginning of the first set. A collection of attack errors and an Ellie Hanson kill tied the set at 4-4. Chelsea Williams knocked down a kill to give Miami their first lead at 7-6. The Zips went on to score the next five points at 11-6. Akron did not look back, closing the set 25-16.
- Miami tied the match at three apiece after Hanson and Maggie McCrary put down back-to-back kills. The RedHawks stayed within three at 8-5 after the Zips recorded an attack error. Akron went on to find their rhythm, as they took the second set 25-10.
- Raegan Lantz opened the third set with a kill to give Miami a 1-0 start. The Zips attempted to pull away at 9-4, but a kill from Breannah Peterson sparked a 3-0 run to bring Miami within two at 9-7. The RedHawks kept the score inside of five points at 16-11 after Brooke Cirigliano and Lantz combined for a block. Akron sealed the set with a 25-14 win.
GAME NOTES:
- Hayden Hicks recorded a game-high 20 assists.
- Taylor Nomanson produced the match-high 13 digs.
