Miami Drops to Texas State, 75-65

Oxford, Ohio – The Miami University men's basketball team lost at Millett Hall against Texas State University Saturday afternoon by a score of 75-65. Darweshi Hunter led the RedHawks (0-2) with 21 points, while Jaquel Morris (12) and Mekhi Cooper (11) each added double-figures. Tyrel Morgan led the Bobcats (1-1) with 19 points.

The Miami men will host six non-conference games, including a two-game homestand that is a part of the Miami Classic in mid-November. This will span from Friday Nov. 17 through Sunday Nov. 19. The next game for Travis Steele's squad is set for Friday, Nov. 17 vs. Coppin State at 7 p.m. This is the Red and White's first game in the Miami Classic.
How it Happened:
- Texas claimed an 8-3 lead before Morris tied the game with a traditional three-point play off of a layup. Texas gained momentum after a rebound and layup from Chris Nix at 10-8. Tyrel Morgan went on to score two three-point field goals to give the Bobcats an eight-point lead. The RedHawks responded with a 12-2 run, tying the score at 20-20 with 6:01 left to play in the first half.
- With 2:17 to play, Bradley Dean gave Miami an offensive push after knocking down a three pointer and two free throws, bringing Miami within one at 30-29. The Bobcats answered with a 10-2 run to bring the score to 40-31 heading into intermission.
- Cooper and Hunter start the second half strong with back-to-back shots from behind the arc. The Bobcats took advantage of their rebounding opportunities, taking a nine-point lead with 15:49 left in the second half. Hunter went on to knock down another three, and Eian Elmer got going after connecting on a jump shot at 51-44.
- Cooper made a jump shot as the shot clock expired to bring the Red and White within five points at 58-53, but the RedHawks did not get any closer at the finish.
- Freshman Hampton Dauparas made his first career appearance.
- Mabrey recorded a career-high two blocks.
- Hunter had the game-high 21 points.
