ATHENS, Ohio – On Friday afternoon, the Miami University field hockey team downed rival Ohio University 3-1 in Athens, Ohio. This pushes the RedHawks to 9-5 on the season and 4-0 in the Mid-American Conference. The Bobcats fall to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the MAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Through the end of the first quarter, the score remained 0-0.
- About halfway through the second quarter on a penalty corner, Claudia Negrete Garcia scored the first goal for the RedHawks to give them a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. She was assisted by Paula Navarro.
- Just over a minute into the third quarter, Carlie Servis scored to double Miami's lead to 2-0. She was assisted by Paula Peña Martinez.
- With less than a minute remaining in the third quarter, the Bobcats scored to cut the deficit to 2-1.
- Negrete Garcia scored her second goal of the game on a penalty stroke with just over five minutes remaining in the game, pushing Miami's lead to 3-1.
- The RedHawks held this lead through the end of the game to take the win 3-1.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks do not hit the field again until Oct. 13 when they take on Kent State University in Kent, Ohio at 1 p.m.
