OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (4-13, 0-5 MAC) fell in a three-set match (25-23, 25-19, 25-13) to the University of Toledo (6-10, 4-1 MAC) Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami took an 8-5 lead at the start of the match after Chelsea Williams put down a service ace. The Rockets evened the match at 11 apiece halfway through the set. A pair of kills from Ellie Hanson gave Miami a 17-15 advantage as the end of the set approached. The Rockets regained the lead for the first time since the start of the set at 18-17. The Red and White came within one point at 24-23, although the effort fell just short as Toledo won the set 25-23. No team led by more than four points the entire set.
- The Rockets jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the beginning of the second set. Numerous kills from Raegan Lantz and Brooke Jackson led Miami to trail by four at 15-11. Gentry Warrick and Caroline Cermack each added a pair of late kills, but the effort wasn't enough as Toledo took the set 25-19.
- Toledo continued their strong play at the start of the third set, as they claimed an 11-3 lead. A service ace from Hanson and a kill from Williams brought Miami within five at 14-9. The Rockets remained resilient, as they responded and closed the final set with a 25-13 win.
NOTES:
- Lantz and Warrick recorded the team-high two blocks.
- Hanson led the Red and White with 14 digs.
