KENT, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (4-15, 0-7 MAC) dropped a three-set match (25-12, 25-22, 25-17) to Kent State University (5-14, 1-7 MAC) Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Golden Flashes started strong and claimed an early 10-1 lead at the start of the first set. A Margo Lawson service ace and a pair of kills from Caroline Cermack slowed down the offensive push from Kent State at 5-12. The Golden Flashes built off of the momentum they built at the start of play and closed out the first set with a 25-12 win.
At the start of the second set, Chelsea Williams put down two kills and a service ace to even the match at 5-5. The Golden Flashes looked to close out the set at 21-13, but Miami stayed resilient and answered with a 4-0 run to shrink the lead to 21-17. Kent State eventually edged the Red and White to take the set 25-22.
Miami trailed 6-13 in the third set after Kent State committed numerous attack and service errors. The RedHawks stayed within six points at 16-10 thanks to an Ellie Hanson service ace and a Williams kill. The Golden Flashes ultimately clinched the match with a 25-17 set win.

NOTES:

Lawson tied the match-high 11 digs.
Warrick matched the game-high four blocks.

The RedHawks prepare for their second match against the Golden Flashes on Saturday, Oct. 14. The match will begin at 4 p.m. and take place at the Memorial Athletic Convocation Center.
