OKLAHOMA CITY – Miami University's Karli Spaid was announced to the USA Softball Top-50 Watch List for the 2023 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year on Wednesday, Jan. 25. The prestigious award will look to recognize a Collegiate Player of the Year based on outstanding play throughout the entire NCAA Division I collegiate softball season.
The Chicago, Ill. native is coming off a record-breaking performance in 2022, earning first-team All-MAC, first-team All-Region and third-team All-American honors. She started all 58 games for the Red and White, finishing the season with a .413 batting average, 28 home runs, 70 RBI, a .931 slugging percentage and a .489 on-base percentage. The junior did some of her best work against the nation's top teams. She had two home runs against Ohio State last February. A week later she did the same at Texas. She added a walk-off home run versus California and went 3-for-3 with a pair of dingers versus Bowling Green in the MAC Championship.
After just two years with the RedHawks, Spaid is Miami's career leader in home runs (45) and batting average (.408). She ranks second with 119 RBI and third with 123 runs scored.
