Miami Baseball head coach Danny Hayden announced his team's 2023 schedule today. The RedHawks' slate gets underway Feb. 17-19 with a three-game set at Georgia Tech and includes 10 Mid-American Conference three-game series for a total of 30 league games.
Â
After the trio of games against the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta, the Red and White conclude the month of February with a single game at Indiana (Feb. 21) and a weekend series at North Alabama (Feb. 24-26).
Â
Miami starts the month of March with single road games against local rivals – Cincinnati (March 1), Wright State (March 7) and Dayton (March 8) – sandwiched around the RedHawks' first home series of the spring. Miami will host Siena on March 4-5, with a doubleheader on tap for Saturday and the series finale on Sunday.
Â
Each of the next 10 weekends are reserved for MAC play, which begins March 10-12 when Toledo comes to town. The schedule format this year will include a single game Friday, Saturday and Sunday as opposed to the four-game series from previous springs that included a doubleheader each weekend.
Â
The RedHawks will play games at Northern Kentucky (March 14) and Louisville (March 15) the following week before returning to Oxford to entertain Northern Illinois (March 17-19). The remainder of the month includes a home-and-home with Oakland (March 21 in Ohio and March 29 in Michigan), a visit from Wright State (March 22), and the first MAC road series of the spring at Bowling Green (March 24-26).
The RedHawks welcome Western Michigan to McKie Field at Hayden Park (March 31-April 2). April also brings a return of the annual Nuxhall Classic, with more information about game dates, opponents and times to be announced soon.
Â
The schedule continues with a three-game series at Ohio in the Battle of the Bricks (April 14-16), followed by a highly-anticipated visit from Ohio State April 18. The RedHawks remain home to host Kent State April 21-23 before another single matchup with a Big Ten program, heading to Purdue on April 26. Miami closes the month with a league series at Central Michigan (April 28-30).
Â
The final month of the regular season includes a game at Southern Indiana (May 3), a home series with Akron (May 5-7) and the last conference series of the year (May 12-14) at Ball State. The RedHawks will travel to Lake Charles, La. for non-conference games at McNeese State May 17-19. The MAC Tournament is set for May 24-27 at the home field of the highest seed.
Â
"I'm very excited to get rolling with this group," Hayden said. "Our schedule sets up with some great opportunities early, highlighted with the trip to play Georgia Tech and former MIAMI standout and longtime Yellow Jackets skipper Danny Hall. He is a great coach and I am excited to give him an up-close look as his alma mater.Â
Â
"I love the fact that we are able to play every school during our conference season. After that 10-week stretch, there is no doubt who the best team is at the finish line. The possibility for MIAMI to host the tournament is something that will motivate us throughout the season as well. There would be nothing sweeter than a MIAMI dogpile at McKie!"
