Miami Senior Finishes Fifth at Mozart Cup

SALZBURG, Austria—One of two teams representing the United States at the Mozart Cup, the Miami University senior synchronized skating team finished fifth among a 16-team field and cracked 200 points for the third time in as many events this season. The RedHawks finished with a combined score of 202.68.

The Miami senior team is idle until making its second international trip of the season to the Spring Cup in Milan, Italy, February 18-19. Miami's collegiate team returns to the ice next weekend at the Midwestern Championships in Rockford, Ill., on January 28.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami had a clean skate for its free skate, notching a score of 137.25, the fifth-best free skate score at the event. Miami had a technical element score of 73.24 and a program component score of 64.01.
- The RedHawks' free skate score was nearly seven points better than Italy's sixth-place Hot Shivers and trailed Finland's fourth-place Team Unique by just over six points.
- Canada's Nexxice won the event with a combined score of 222.13, followed by USA's Haydenettes with a score of 217.81. Finland's Dream Edges jumped to third in the final standings with a combined score of 217.00 with Finland's Team Unique finishing fourth with a combined score of 214.96.
- The Mozart Cup is part of the Challenger Series Synchronized Skating, which consists of up to five international competitions linked together to provide adequate opportunities for many teams to compete at the international level and earn World Standing Points while also preparing to compete at the ISU Championships. The Mozart Cup's competition field is comprised of 16 teams representing 11 different countries.
