Schlecht Strikes Again To Lift Miami Past Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On Thursday evening, the Miami University soccer team (3-2-1) took a 1-0 road victory over the Bellarmine University soccer team (0-3-3).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • At the 35th minute, junior Camber Hayes funneled the ball out to the right flank for senior Jaimie Tottleben, who then bypassed a Bellarmine defender. Tottleben attempted a cross but the Bellarmine goalkeeper came out to intercept.
  • In the 50th minute, the RedHawks were awarded a penalty kick from a Bellarmine foul. Kylee Beinecke aimed for the bottom left corner, but missed the opportunity.
  • Approaching the 60th minute mark, the Redhawks were awarded a right-sided free kick. Freshman Caroline Palmer sent in a grounded pass to redshirt junior Madeline Schlecht, who then made it 1-0 for Miami with a powerful shot.
  • 10 minutes later, Hayes whipped in a free kick from deep to sophomore Makenna Morrison, who then headed it into the path of senior Emily Sexton, whose shot went over the crossbar.

NOTES:
  • The RedHawks outshot the Knights 10-3.
  • Senior Izzie Vaccari only had to make one save in her recording her 14th career shutout victory.
  • Palmer registered her first career assist.
  • Schlecht has found the back of the net in three different games to lead the team in scoring from her defender position.
