CHICAGO, Ill. – Under the drizzle of Sunday afternoon, the Miami University's women's soccer team (2-2-1) took down the University of Illinois – Chicago's women's soccer team (0-3-2) by a score of 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the 17th minute, sophomore Makenna Morrison drew a right-sided corner after a close-range shot. Junior Camber Hayes delivered the ball to the edge of the six-yard box where Morrison made it 1-0 for Miami with a header.
- In the final minute of the first half, junior Julia Hoffmann drew a foul from less than 25 yards away from UIC's goal. Hayes then attempted a shot but it was wide of goal.
- At the 56th minute mark, senior Kennedy Gray forced a save from UIC's goalkeeper. From a left-sided corner, Hayes whipped a cross towards the far post for redshirt junior Madeline Schlecht to score a header off the crossbar, extending the lead to 2-0 for Miami.
- Less than five minutes later, Morrison claimed the ball off a UIC mistake to drive towards goal and chip it over UIC's goalkeeper to seal a 3-0 victory for Miami.
NOTES:
- This was the first ever match-up between Miami and UIC.
- Morrison opened her account for the 2022 season with a brace.
- This was the second time Hayes has assisted Schlecht this season, with the previous also coming from a left-sided corner against Loyola University Chicago.
- Of the 11 shots that Miami took, nine were on goal compared to UIC's five shots on goal out of 12 total shots.
