CINCINNATI, Ohio— The Miami University volleyball team (5-6) faced local rival Cincinnati (2-7) at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati. Despite the RedHawks never giving in, the Bearcats went on to win the match, 25-19, 25-14, 25-17.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first set started out tight until the score reached 5-5. Three kills from
Abby Stratford provided the spark Miami needed, going on a 7-1 run and taking a 12-6 lead. Numerous blocks from Cincinnati helped them tie the game at 13-13. Despite the RedHawks effort, the Bearcats finished out the opening set with a 25-19 win.
The Bearcats found their flow early in the second, pulling ahead 11-2. Maintaining the lead throughout the set, Cincinnati went on to collect a 25-14 win.
Cincinnati continued the momentum they built off the previous set, pulling ahead 9-0 at the start of the third. The RedHawks dug deep as
Ellie Hanson recorded 3 consecutive serving aces to bring Miami within five at 20-15. Although, this was not enough as Cincinnati went on to win 25-17.
NOTES:
- Stratford recorded a team-high 11 kills
- Brooke Jackson had a team-high 9 digs

The RedHawks start conference play next week against rival Ohio University on Friday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Sept. 24 in Athens, Ohio.
