
Three RedHawks Named to All-MAC Teams

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2022 postseason baseball awards on Tuesday. For Miami, senior pitcher Jonathan Brand and freshman designated hitter David Novak earned a spot on the All-MAC First Team. Sophomore pitcher Zach Maxey earned Second-Team All-MAC honors.
Brand, a native of Columbus, Ga., finished the 2022 campaign with an 8-2 record and a sparkling 1.40 ERA. He allowed one earned run or less in 11 of his 13 appearances, recording 86 strikeouts in 77.1 innings pitched. He had double-digit strikeouts in three different outings. Brand pitched two complete games, including one shutout.
Novak hit .370 for the RedHawks this year, compiling 13 extra-base hits including seven homers. The Zionsville, Ind. product had 24 RBI and 57 total bases in 27 appearances for Miami. Novak posted a slugging percentage of .704 and had an on-base percentage of .430.
Maxey, an Avon, Ohio native, finished the year strong, allowing one earned run or less in each of his last six outings, including a nine-inning shutout at Akron where he yielded just three hits. For the season, Maxey was 4-3 on the mound with a 2.27 ERA in 71.1 innings pitched. He struck out 62 batters, including a career-high 11 vs. Kent State.
The RedHawks finished the 2022 season with a 23-33 record, going 18-22 in conference play.
