OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to league-leading Ball State Friday. The RedHawks fell 4-2 in game one and 11-1 in game two. Miami's record slips to 23-32 (18-21 MAC), while BSU improves to 37-17 (31-7 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game One)
- Miami took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Benji Brokemond led off the bottom of the inning with a double, eventually taking third base on a passed ball and coming home to score on a Cole Andrews sacrifice fly.
- After Ball State answered back with three runs in the second and one in the third, William Escala cut into the visitors' lead with a solo homer to right center in the fourth inning, making it 4-2.
MIAMI GAME NOTES (Game One)
- Billy Kopicki made his first appearance of the season and matched his career high with two hits.
- Escala's home run was his second of the year.
- Zach Maxey allowed one earned run and struck out seven Cardinals in seven innings on the mound.
- It was Maxey's sixth straight appearance allowing one earned run or less.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game Two)
- Ball State scored three runs in the fourth inning and added five in the fifth.
- Miami got on the board in the sixth. After a pair of walks to Nick Neibauer and Brokemond, Parker Lester ripped a single into right to make it 8-1.
- The Cardinals added three runs in the eighth.
MIAMI GAME NOTES (Game Two)
- Escala's double gave him an extra-base hit in five of the last six games.
- Zach MacDonald had a stolen base in both games Friday.
