Miami Softball Drops Series Opener Against Bowling Green

Box Score OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami softball team opened its two-day series against Bowling Green with a 4-2 loss Tuesday evening. Both teams struggled to generate any kind of consistent momentum early in the contest. The RedHawks struck first and maintained the lead for a majority of the game, but the Falcons mounted a comeback in the top of the seventh that proved to be too much for Miami to overcome.

How it Happened:
  • Courtney Vierstra stepped in the circle to kick things off for Miami. The fifth year pitcher struck out out ten batters while allowing four runs on six hits in a complete game performance.
  • Lily Wilmot's solo home run got things started in the bottom of the third for the RedHawks, giving them an early 1-0 lead.
  • Both teams failed to record a run through the two innings to follow.
  • The drought continued until Holly Blaska blasted a home run to right field in the bottom of the sixth, extending Miami's lead to two.
  • BG answered with four runs in the top of the seventh, overtaking the RedHawks, 4-2, and swinging the momentum in their favor.
  • Miami was unable to respond in the bottom of the final inning, ending the game in a 4-2 loss for the RedHawks.
Notes:
  • Blaska and Wilmot both finished 1-for-3 from the plate with a home run.
  • Maggie Murphy finished 2-for-3 with a double.
