Miami Travels to Denver For NCHC Quarterfinals

Miami heads to Denver to begin postseason play against the No. 3/3 Pioneers in a best-of-three series this weekend. DU shared the Penrose Cup with North Dakota and is the top seed in the NCHC tournament, while the RedHawks are the eighth-seeded team in the event. Miami dropped a pair of games at then-No. 8 Western Michigan last weekend (5-3 and 3-0), while Denver swept in-state foe Colorado College by scores of 5-0 and 5-2.

Denver defeated Miami four times this season, winning 4-1 and 7-1 at Magness Arena in November and by scores of 5-4 (OT) and 4-2 in Oxford in January. The Pioneers are 15-1-1 at home overall.

Miami is looking for its third conference tournament championship in program history. The RedHawks won the NCHC tournament in 2015 and the CCHA tournament in 2011. With a series victory this weekend, the Red and White could advance to the Frozen Faceoff for the first time since winning the event in 2015.

The games will be available on NCHC.tv, with puck drop scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday and 8 p.m. Sunday (if necessary) in Denver, Colo. Greg Waddell will have the radio call, with Friday's broadcast slated for WKBV 1490 AM (Richmond, Ind.), Saturday's broadcast info to be determined, and Sunday's broadcast on WMOH 1450 AM The Ticket (Hamilton, Ohio).

Miami enters the playoffs at 7-25-2 (4-19-1 NCHC), while Denver is 25-8-1 (18-6-0 NCHC).

Head coach Chris Bergeron and sophomore forward Thomas Daskas met with the media this week to preview the series against the Pioneers.
