RedHawks Come Up Just Short at Akron, 73-72

AKRON, Ohio – Playing the last 24 minutes of the contest without Peyton Scott, the Miami University women's basketball team (8-21, 4-16 MAC) came up just short in a 73-72 loss at Akron on Saturday afternoon.­ Three freshmen led the way for the RedHawks. Ivy Wolf was tops on the squad with 22 points, followed by Edyn Battle (15) and Maddi Cluse (10). Jordyn Dawson led the Zips (15-10, 13-7 MAC) with 26 points.
 
How it Happened:
  • Akron made its first six shots of the game, claiming a 17-9 advantage six minutes into the contest. The Zips led 19-13 after one quarter of play.
  • Miami answered, scoring the first six points of the second quarter to knot the score at 19, behind four straight points from Tajah Foster-Walker. Akron led 40-32 at the half.
  • Akron scored the first bucket of the second half to take a 10-point advantage. Miami responded with a 15-4 run behind eight points from Wolf to go up 47-44 lead midway through the third quarter. Miami led 56-55 entering the fourth stanza.
  • Akron opened the fourth quarter with an 8-3 run, but triples from Wolf, Battle and Cluse combined with a layup from Jada Duckett gave Miami a 70-63 lead with four minutes to play. The Zips closed on a 10-2 run to squeak out the victory.
 
Game Notes:
  • Senior Vannessa Garrelts played in her final game as a RedHawk, finishing the contest with a game-high five steals.
  • Ivy Wolf was a perfect 10-of-10 from the foul line.
  • Edyn Battle connected on a career-high in three pointers (3).
