COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Record-setting performances, a national title and berth to the ISU World Championships highlighted the final day of competition for the Miami University synchronized skating teams at the U.S. National Synchronized Skating Championships on Saturday. The RedHawk collegiate team captured the program's 20th collegiate national title with a record-setting performance, while the senior team produced the best free skate score at the competition en route to a silver medal and punched their ticket to the world championships with a top-two finish.
HOW IT HAPPENED (COLLEGIATE):
- Skating first among the 13-team field, Miami set the tone with a powerful skate and establishing a score of 116.95 that would not be approached.
- The RedHawks' score of 116.95 is the highest ever by a collegiate team, besting the previous record of 113.70 they set at the Midwestern Championships on Jan. 29, 2022.
- It was the 20th collegiate national crown for Miami and first since 2019.
- Miami finished 11.21 points ahead of its nearest competitors, Adrian College, who posted a score of 105.74. Western Michigan was the other team to crack 100 with a score of 104.30.
- Michigan (97.95), Michigan State (97.03), Delaware (92.95), Team Excel (88.62), Trine (80.32), Illinois (77.68), Boston University (70.68), Boston College (65.73), Massachusetts (58.55) and Liberty (38.95) rounded out the field, respectively.
- Saturday completed an undefeated season for Miami's collegiate team, who finished first at every competition they skated.
HOW IT HAPPENED (SENIOR)
A beautiful free skate performance punctuated an exciting weekend for the RedHawks, who amassed a season-high score of 140.84 and top free skate score of the competition.
- Miami finished with a season-best combined score of 214.67 to place second overall.
- The Haydenettes notched a free skate score of 139.23 but finished with an overall score of 218.86 to place first in the senior division.
- Skyliners (208.36), Adrian College (183.75) and Crystallettes (174.01) rounded out the senior field, respectively.
- The RedHawks and Haydenettes will represent the United States at the upcoming world championships.
- This will be Miami's 13th trip to the world championships and first since 2016.
