OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami softball team defeated IUPUI via run-rule Wednesday evening, 8-0. Courtney Vierstra put together an excellent outing in the circle, while big plays at the plate from Kate Kobayashi and Lily Wilmot pushed the RedHawks past the Cougars in just six innings. 
 
How it Happened:

• Vierstra pitched a complete game for the RedHawks, allowing zero runs on two hits while recording 15 strikeouts through six innings.
• Kobayashi put on a great performance from the plate, going 2-for-4 and recording three RBI. 
• The RedHawks jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning behind a leadoff home run from Allie Cummins. 
• Both teams would fail to record a run in the second and third innings. The RedHawks broke the drought in the bottom of the fourth after a sacrifice fly from Chloe Parks allowed Holly Blaska to race home for the score. 
• Kobayashi's three-run double in the bottom of the sixth extended Miami's lead to 6-0 following a walk that resulted in a RedHawk score. 
• A two-run walk-off home run from Wilmot in the same inning would end the game in an 8-0 run-rule victory for the RedHawks. 

Notes:

• Cummins went a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate with two RBI in the contest.
• Wilmot finished 1-for-3 from the plate with a home run.

Miami returns to action on Friday to kick off a weekend series against MAC rival, Ohio University. Opening pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m in Oxford.
