Miami Softball Defeats No. 19 Michigan Wednesday, 7-3

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Miami softball team defeated No. 19 Michigan Wednesday afternoon, 7-3. Despite a rain delay midway through the seventh inning, Miami put together strong showings from the plate and in the field, allowing the RedHawks to sustain control throughout the length of the contest.

How it Happened (Game One):
  • Courtney Vierstra got the start for the RedHawks on Wednesday, recording her third win of the season. The senior pitched a complete game against the Wolverines, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out seven Michigan batters.
  • Holly Blaska continued her hot streak, going 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBI.
  • Miami opened the game with a 1-0 lead courtesy of a Lily Wilmot RBI single in the top of the first, but Michigan immediately answered back with a score of their own in the bottom of the inning.
  • The RedHawks kept their foot on the gas through the top of the second, rattling off three runs in the inning behind an RBI single from Adriana Barlow and a two-run home run from Blaska.
  • Both teams failed to score in the following two innings, but the RedHawks would total three hits through the third and the fourth.
  • Maggie Murphy, Chloe Parks, and Barlow would record an RBI to add three runs to the RedHawks' total, bringing the score to 7-1 at the top of the fifth inning.
  • The Wolverines would counter with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth, cutting into the RedHawks' lead.
  • Neither team would score a run in the sixth, and after a rain delay halted play, Michigan would add one more run to their total at the bottom of the seventh.
  • Ultimately, the Michigan comeback would start too late, as the RedHawks top the Wolverines in Ann Arbor, 7-3.
Game Notes:
  •  Eight different Miami batters recorded a hit in the contest.
