RedHawks Pick Up 80-67 Win at Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Behind a season-low six turnovers and balanced scoring from Edyn Battle (20 points), Peyton Scott (17 points) and Ivy Wolf (16 points), the Miami University women's basketball team (7-12, 3-7 MAC) downed Western Michigan 80-67 on Saturday afternoon. The Broncos (12-7, 6-4 MAC), who came into Saturday's contest third in the conference, were led by Lauren Ross with 16 points.
 
The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Red and White as Miami used a 27-8 run in an 11-minute stretch between the late third/middle of the fourth quarter to take a commanding lead.
 
How it Happened:
  • Miami led 17-13 after one period of action with five points from Maddi Cluse and four from Scott. Miami was 3-of-5 from behind the arc in the first 10 minutes of action.
  • The RedHawks offense continued to roll to start the second as Battle converted on a dribble drive to extend Miami's advantage, 19-13. The Broncos answered with a 9-2 run to take a 22-21 lead. The two teams went to the locker room tied, 32-32.
  • Eight lead changes occurred in the third quarter alone before the RedHawks closed the third period on a 7-2 run to claim a 54-48 lead with 10 minutes to play.
  • Miami scored the first four points of the fourth on jumpers from Battle and Wolf to garner a 10 point lead. Moments later, Vannessa Garrelts drilled a triple and Miami led 61-48 with seven minutes remaining in the fourth. The Broncos would get no closer than eight points.
 
Game Notes:
  • Edyn Battle finished the contest with a career-high 20 points.
  • Freshman Maddi Cluse returned to action after missing the past few games with an injury. She had eight points and three rebounds in 17 minutes of action.
  • Ivy Wolf had five assists in the win, one shy of her career best.
  • Miami was 15-of-18 from the free throw line.
