RedHawks, Broncos Round Two on Saturday

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team heads to Western Michigan for round two with the Broncos on Saturday, Feb. 5. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.

ROAD WARRIORS: Saturday is Miami's second of a three-game road swing and the RedHawks have a stretch of six of their next eight contests on the road.

HUNGRY LIKE A WOLF: In the loss to Toledo, freshman Ivy Wolf scored 20 points, her first 20-point effort since opening the year with 23 at home versus Valpo. The freshman is currently averaging 10.2 points per game and leads the team with 30 three pointers made.

ROCKETS DOWN REDHAWKS, 74-64:  Miami outscored Toledo 26-15 in the fourth quarter, but fell 74-64 on Wednesday afternoon to the Rockets. Ivy Wolf led the way for the RedHawks with 20 points, while Peyton Scott had 17 and Edyn Battle chipped in with 14.

BALANCING ACT: While Peyton Scott (19.0) is getting a majority of the offensive attention, Miami has a total of eight players averaging at least 3.9 points per game this season. Last year, just four RedHawks averaged over 4.0 points per game.

NEW FACES, NEW PLACES: Miami has six additions to the RedHawks in 2021-22 that are contributing numbers to Miami's success. In all, Ivy Wolf, Maddi Cluse, Edyn Battle, Tajah Foster-Walker, Jordan Tuff and Katey Richason are combining for 32.8 points and 17.3 rebounds per game.

ROUND TWO WITH THE BRONCOS:  These two teams competed back on Jan. 22 at Millett Hall. The RedHawks rallied from a 22-point deficit with just over 10 minutes remaining to pull within two points on three separate occasions, but the visiting Western Michigan Broncos held on for a 63-54 win. Peyton Scott scored all 17 of her points in the second half to lead the RedHawks, while Edyn Battle added 15 points and Ivy Wolf chipped in 11 with five assists.

ABOUT THE BRONCOS: Western Michigan is 12-6 on the year and 6-3 in conference play. Sophomore Lauren Ross leads the team at 18.6 points per game, while Taylor Williams nearly averages a double-double at 11.5 points and 9.2 boards per contest.

SERIES WITH THE BRONCOS: This will be the 68th meeting between the two schools with WMU holding a 34-33 series advantage.

LIKE A FINE WINE: No easy way to put it, but the RedHawks have struggled offensively in the first half this season, averaging 29.0 points in the first 20 minutes of action. As the game goes on, the offense improves. The RedHawks average 38.4 points per game in the second half and have outscored their opponents 375-342 in the fourth quarter.

GREAT SCOTT: Junior guard Peyton Scott has accomplished a ton since arriving in Oxford, all while maintaining a 3.73 grade-point average and majoring in sports leadership and management.
• She has scored 1,236 points and ranks 15th all-time on Miami's scoring list. She is just 113 points shy of cracking Miami's top-10 scoring list.
• She currently ranks fifth in the MAC in scoring (19.0), 16th in rebounding (6.1), 10th in assists (3.9) and sixth in steals (1.8).
• Has made 38 of her last 40 free throw attempts
• Last season alone, she scored 30-plus points in five different games, including 39 versus Ball State, a new Millett Hall record. She has surpassed 30-plus points six different times in her career.
• She had a stretch last season from Feb. 3-Feb. 13 in which she scored 30-plus points in four straight games, the first RedHawk in school history to accomplish such a feat.
• In her last 46 contests, Scott has more 30 point games (6) then under 10 point games (3).
• She has scored in double figures in 40 of her last 42 contests.

GOING TO BATTLE: The RedHawks have leaned heavily on Edyn Battle lately. After surpassing 10-plus points just once in her first six games, Battle has scored in double figures in nine of her last 12 contests.
