OXFORD, Ohio – Despite a career-high 32 points from freshman
Ivy Wolf, the Miami University women's basketball team (8-19, 4-14 MAC) fell 81-76 to Bowling Green State University on Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall. Amy Velasco had 19 points to lead the Falcons (14-13, 9-9 MAC).
How it Happened:
- Bowling Green opened the game on a 7-0 run, but a jumper midway through the first quarter from Peyton Scott, cut BG's lead to 13-12. The Falcons led 17-16 after 10 minutes of play.
- Wolf scored 11 of her 18 first half points in the second quarter as the RedHawks went to the locker room with a 34-31 advantage.
- Miami grabbed a 55-53 advantage on a layup from Wolf with 1:37 to play in the third, but the Falcons scored the final seven points of the quarter and led 60-55 entering the fourth.
- BGSU pushed its lead to 72-61 at the midway point of the final stanza. A floater in the lane from Scott trimmed the deficit to 75-69 with two minutes to play and a triple by Wolf with 50 seconds to play made it 77-73. After a pair of BG free throws, Maddi Cluse drilled a three pointer, making it a one possession game with 42 seconds to play, but the RedHawks could get no closer.
Game Notes:
- Amani Freeman saw her first action since Dec. 19, finishing the game with nine points and five rebounds.
- Wolf finished the contest with 32, a new career-high. Her previous best was 23 points in the season opener versus Valpo.
- Peyton Scott had her 70th career double-figure scoring game, finishing with 19 points against the Falcons. She now has 1,416 career points, ninth-best in Miami scoring history.
- Miami celebrated senior day on Saturday, honoring both Vannessa Garrelts and Alexis Straw pregame.
