
RedHawks Finish Third in MAC Championships

After four days of competition, the Miami University swimming and diving team finished the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in third place on Saturday, Feb. 26, in Bowling Green. The team ended with 429.5 points, coming in behind the University at Buffalo with 619.5 points and the University of Akron with 896.5 points.

The finals events began with the 1650 freestyle. Katheryn Antonowich picked up an eighth place finish with a time of 17:05.48, while Natalie Stump also earned the RedHawks points with a top 20 placement and a time of 17:12.76. The 200 backstroke saw Angelina Cakuls (1:59.18) and Emily Rinker (1:59.54) finishing in seventh and eighth place respectively. Reese Dismukes (2:01.39) and Madeline Padavic (2:02.00) both finished within the top 20 as well.

Nicole Maier and Honor Brodie-Foy both finished in the top five of the 100 freestyle. Maier came in second with a time of 48.71 and Brodie-Foy came in fourth with a time of 49.53. Alexandra Spaczay took a sixth place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:15.14, while Anna Martin (2:18.17) also picked up some points. In the 200 butterfly, Erin Szczupakiewicz earned a seventh place finish with a time of 2:00.57 and McKenzie Reid grabbed some points with a 2:03.99 time.

The final event of the night was the 400 freestyle relay, where the RedHawks came in third with a combined time of 3:19.86. Splits from Maier (48.93), Brodie-Foy (49.12), Rachel Botting (50.81) and Cakuls (51.00) helped close the championship out.
Maier earned first-team All-MAC honors, while Brodie-Foy and Szczupakiewicz were named second-team All-MAC for their performances.

The Miami swimming and diving team returns to tournament action with the MAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in Carbondale, Ill. The meet begins on Wednesday, March 2, and goes through Saturday, March 5.
