
RedHawks Take Third After First Day of MAC Women's Championships

The Miami University women's swimming and diving team kicked off the Mid-American Conference Championships with two relay events on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Bowling Green. Going up against seven other schools, the two relay teams both took third place in their respective events thanks to solid splits from each swimmer, placing the team in third overall thus far.

The RedHawks began the meet with the 200 medley relay, finishing behind Akron in first and less than a second behind the University at Buffalo in second. The team picked up a combined time of 1:38.53 thanks to splits of 24.67 from Madeline Padavic, 28.11 from Sara Lahrach-Sanchez, 23.72 from McKenzie Reid and 22.03 from Honor Brodie-Foy.

The second event saw Miami's relay teams once again taking third, this time in the 800 free relay. Akron and Buffalo once again took first and second respectively. The RedHawks grabbed a 7:14.34 combined time, a significant improvement over their seed time of 7:20.39. The race saw splits of 1:44.90 from Nicole Maier, 1:48.94 from Erin Szczupakiewicz, 1:49.68 from Katheryn Antonowich and 1:50.82 from Alexandra Spaczay.

Miami finished the day in third place overall with a score of 64, just behind Buffalo's score of 68 and Akron's score of 80. The RedHawks return to action Thursday, Feb. 24, with the next three sessions including the one meter diving event, multiple freestyle events and the 200 individual medley.
