RedHawks Host Kent State on Wednesday Night

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team returns home on Wednesday Feb. 23 to host Kent State. Opening tip is slated for 7 p.m.

EQUALITY AND INCLUSION: Wednesday will be Miami's Equality and Inclusion Night, which is a national campaign throughout college basketball. The purpose is to keep the fight for Equality in the national spotlight.

HUNGRY LIKE A WOLF: Over her past eight games, freshman Ivy Wolf is averaging 15.6 points, while shooting 41.5% (44-106) from the floor and 37.5% (18-48) from behind the arc. Wolf had 20 points back on Feb. 2 versus Toledo and is coming off 22 points in the loss to Buffalo last Saturday.

MOVIN' ON UP: Junior guard Peyton Scott  currently ranks 10th all-time in Miami scoring with 1,373 career points. Up next on the list is Kim Lancaster (1,413).

REDHAWKS COME UP SHORT AT UB:  Ivy Wolf (22) and Peyton Scott (19) combined for 41 points, but it wasn't enough as the Miami University women's basketball team dropped an 83-71 decision to the University at Buffalo last Saturday. Dyaisha Fair led the Bulls with 36 points.

BALANCING ACT: While Peyton Scott (19.6) is getting a majority of the offensive attention, Miami has a total of eight players averaging at least 3.9 points per game this season. Last year, just four RedHawks averaged over 4.0 points per game.

NEW FACES, NEW PLACES: Miami has seven additions to the RedHawks in 2021-22 that are contributing numbers to Miami's success. In all, Ivy Wolf, Maddi Cluse, Edyn Battle, Tajah Foster-Walker, Jordan Tuff, Sydney Watkins and Katey Richason are combining for 35.7 points and 18.4 rebounds per game.

ABOUT KENT STATE: The Golden Flashes are 16-9 on the year and 8-8 in MAC play, winning six of their last eight conference games. Kent State is the top defensive team in the conference, allowing a league low 60.4 points per game. Katie Shumate is tops on the team at 12.5 points per contest.

SERIES WITH THE FLASHES: This will be the 97th meeting between the two schools with Kent State holding a 49-47 all-time series advantage. KSU has won five of the previous six contests.

ROUND TWO WITH KSU: Peyton Scott led Miami with 16 points, six rebounds and six assists in an 83-61 loss at Kent State back on Feb. 7. Nila Blackford's 22 points and nine rebounds were best for the Golden Flashes.

LIKE A FINE WINE: As the game goes on the RedHawks seem to improve. This year, the RedHawks average 29.7 points per game in the first half. They average 18.4 points per game in the third quarter and 19.5 in the fourth.

GREAT SCOTT: Junior guard Peyton Scott has accomplished a ton since arriving in Oxford, all while maintaining a 3.73 grade-point average and majoring in sports leadership and management.
• She has scored 1,373 points and ranks 10th all-time on Miami's scoring list.
• She currently ranks fourth in the MAC in scoring (19.6), third in field goal percentage (46.5%), 14th in rebounding (6.1), ninth in assists (3.8) and ninth in steals (1.7).
• Has made 70 of her last 78 free throw attempts (89.7%) -- ranks third in the MAC at 85.2% for the year.
• Last season alone, she scored 30-plus points in five different games, including 39 versus Ball State, a new Millett Hall record. She has surpassed 30-plus points six different times in her career.
• She had a stretch last season from Feb. 3-Feb. 13, 2021 in which she scored 30-plus points in four straight games, the first RedHawk in school history to accomplish such a feat.
• In her last 51 contests, Scott has more 30 point games (6) then under 10 point games (3).
• She has scored in double figures in 47 of her last 49 contests.

NOTHING BUT NET: The RedHawks enter Wednesday's contest as the second-best free throw shooting team in the conference at 72.8%. Ivy Wolf, while technically not listed in the MAC stats due to a lack of attempts, her 86.8% from the line would rank second in the MAC. Scott ranks third (85.2%) and Katie Davidson is 13th (76.5%). Miami's biggest downfall is the lack of attempts. The RedHawks have attempted 313 free throws compared to 536 for its opponents this year.

GOING TO BATTLE: The RedHawks have leaned heavily on Edyn Battle lately. After surpassing 10-plus points just once in her first six games, Battle has scored in double figures in 14 of her last 19 contests, including a career-high 20 points in the win over Western Michigan.
