Tigers Outlast Miami in OT

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — PJ Fletcher scored two goals and added an assist, but Colorado College outlasted Miami 4-3 in overtime Friday night. CC's Hunter McKown finished off a hat trick with 15 seconds remaining in the 3-on-3 extra session to give the Tigers (8-18-3, 5-13-1 NCHC) the victory. Ludvig Persson made 45 saves in net for the RedHawks (6-21-2, 3-15-1), who picked up a point in the conference standings with the result.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 19:36 1st (CC 1-0) | McKown put the Tigers on top in the final moments of the first period, taking control of the puck near the end boards, skating it out, and then spinning free to slide between Miami's defenders and open the scoring. Brian Hawkinson and Jack Millar picked up assists on the play for CC.
  • 3:51 2nd (Miami 1-1) | The RedHawks answered back on their first power play of the game. Derek Daschke patiently worked the puck over to Matt Barry, who drew the defense and sent a pass all the way across the zone to Fletcher for a perfectly blasted one-timer to make it 1-1.
  • 19:34 2nd (Miami 2-1) | Miami picked up its second power play goal of the middle period on a similar play to its first. Daschke was able to hold the puck in on a CC clear attempt to keep possession for the RedHawks. The Red and White eventually took advantage as Fletcher found Chase Gresock, who whipped a cross-ice pass through four defenders to connect with Barry for a one-time rocket that gave the visitors their first lead of the night.
  • 3:01 3rd (CC 2-2) | CC evened things up early in the third period, as Tyler Coffey capitalized on the Tigers' extended possession in the offensive zone and found Brett Chorske on the back post. Chorske finished the play to tie the game at 2-2.
  • 7:48 3rd (Miami 3-2) | The RedHawks continued their solid performance on the power play with a third goal on their third opportunity. Matthew Barbolini rebounded a Daschke shot in the middle and knocked the puck free to Gresock. Gresock once again threaded a pass to the opposite side of the ice for a one-timer, this one coming from Fletcher for his third point of the evening.
  • 11:40 3rd (CC 3-3) | Colorado College responded on McKown's second goal, as Bryan Yoon and Logan Will set up McKown, who knocked the puck over Persson for a power-play equalizer.
  • 4:45 OT (CC 4-3) | Late into the overtime period, McKown took a pass from Patrick Cozzi and circled around the zone before sending it into the net to give CC the extra point in the NCHC standings.
