ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team travels to face the Buffalo Bulls on Saturday, Feb. 19. Opening tip is slated for 1 p.m. It's the third straight road contest for the RedHawks this week.
HUNGRY LIKE A WOLF: Over her past seven games, freshman
Ivy Wolf is averaging 14.7 points, while shooting 40.0% (36-90) from the floor and 37.8% (14-37) from behind the arc. Wolf had 20 points back on Feb. 2 versus Toledo, her second 20-point performance of her career and had a career-high eight rebounds in the win over CMU.
MOVIN' ON UP: With 27 points versus EMU on Wednesday, junior guard
Peyton Scott  moved into 10th all-time in Miami scoring. With 1,364 career points, she trails Kim Lancaster (1,413) by 49 points for ninth all-time.
COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AT EMU: Â
Peyton Scott had 27 points and
Ivy Wolf added 16 as the RedHawks nearly erased a 20-point second-half deficit versus Eastern Michigan. Miami trailed 55-35 with 1:59 to play in the third and climbed to within 63-61 with 3:38 to go, but came up short versus the Eagles in a 70-61 loss.
BALANCING ACT: While
Peyton Scott (19.6) is getting a majority of the offensive attention, Miami has a total of eight players averaging at least 3.9 points per game this season. Last year, just four RedHawks averaged over 4.0 points per game.
NEW FACES, NEW PLACES: Miami has seven additions to the RedHawks in 2021-22 that are contributing numbers to Miami's success. In all,
Ivy Wolf,
Maddi Cluse,
Edyn Battle,
Tajah Foster-Walker,
Jordan Tuff,
Sydney Watkins and
Katey Richason are combining for 36.3 points and 18.2 rebounds per game.
ABOUT BUFFALO: The Bulls are 17-8 on the year and 11-4 in MAC play, winning six of their last seven conference games. Buffalo averages 75.0 points per game, second-best in the MAC and are led by Dyaisha Fair's 23.3 points per game, tops in the conference.
SERIES WITH THE BULLS: This will be the 47th meeting between the two schools with UB holding a 46-20 all-time advantage. Buffalo has won the last 13 contests. Miami's last win at Alumni Arena came back on Feb. 21, 2015 (78-68).
ROUND TWO WITH UB: Peyton Scott led Miami with 18 points to pace five RedHawks in double figures.
Maddi Cluse added 17 points and eight rebounds, while
Jada Duckett chipped in 14 points and eight boards.
Edyn Battle had 13 points and
Katie Davidson contributed 10 in an 88-83 UB victory. Buffalo never trailed in the game, but Miami whittled away a 17-point deficit to a single possession in the final minutes before running out of time.
LIKE A FINE WINE: As the game goes on the RedHawks seem to improve. This year, the RedHawks average 29.5 points per game in the first half. They average 18.1 points per game in the third quarter and 19.9 in the fourth.Â
GREAT SCOTT: Junior guard
Peyton Scott has accomplished a ton since arriving in Oxford, all while maintaining a 3.73 grade-point average and majoring in sports leadership and management.
• She has scored 1,364 points and ranks 10th all-time on Miami's scoring list.Â
• She currently ranks fourth in the MAC in scoring (19.6), fourth in field goal percentage (46.3%), 17th in rebounding (5.9), 10th in assists (3.9) and 10th in steals (1.7).
• Has made 66 of her last 74 free throw attempts (89.2%) -- ranks third in the MAC at 85.1% for the year.
• Last season alone, she scored 30-plus points in five different games, including 39 versus Ball State, a new Millett Hall record. She has surpassed 30-plus points six different times in her career.
• She had a stretch last season from Feb. 3-Feb. 13, 2021 in which she scored 30-plus points in four straight games, the first RedHawk in school history to accomplish such a feat.
• In her last 50 contests, Scott has more 30 point games (6) then under 10 point games (3).
• She has scored in double figures in 46 of her last 48 contests.
NOTHING BUT NET: The RedHawks enter Saturday's contest as the second-best free throw shooting team in the conference at 73.2%.
Ivy Wolf, while technically not listed in the MAC stats due to a lack of attempts, her 88.6% from the line would rank second in the MAC. Scott ranks third (85.1%) and
Katie Davidson is 15th (76.5%). Miami's biggest downfall is the lack of attempts. The RedHawks have attempted 299 free throws compared to 523 for its opponents this year.
GOING TO BATTLE: The RedHawks have leaned heavily on
Edyn Battle lately. After surpassing 10-plus points just once in her first six games, Battle has scored in double figures in 13 of her last 18 contests, including a career-high 20 points in the win over Western Michigan.
