Miami Drops Series Finale to No. 16 MSU

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University hockey team dropped a non-conference game to No. 16/16 Michigan State by a score of 4-0 Saturday night at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena. Logan Neaton made 25 saves in net for Miami (5-9-2, 1-6-1 NCHC). Karsen Dorwart scored three goals for Michigan State (11-4-1, 5-2-1 Big Ten).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 17:03 1st (MSU 1-0) | Michigan State scored the game's first goal late in the opening period in the final second of a power play. Nicolas Müller sent the puck around the top of the zone to Matt Basgall, who relayed it to Dorwart near the left point. Dorwart skated it forward and fired into the net as Miami was preparing to exit the penalty box.
  • 0:57 2nd (MSU 2-0) | The Spartans doubled their lead in the first minute after intermission. Daniel Russell flung the puck up to David Gucciardi at the top of the zone. He fed Dorwart on the right wing for a one-timer to put MSU up 2-0.
  • 3:08 2nd (MSU 3-0) | Dorwart added a power play goal just over two minutes later. Müller's shot from the right circle fell to Jagger Joshua, who dumped it across the crease for Dorwart to knock home from close range.
  • 10:55 3rd (MSU 4-0) | MSU tallied again in the final period, as Gucciardi intercepted a pass at center ice to set up a quick-developing 2-on-1. He fed Russell on his left for the finish to make it 4-0.
