GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Jack Clement scored his first goal of the season with 5:26 remaining to lift Miami to a 4-3 victory at No. 19 North Dakota Saturday night.
John Waldron,
Matthew Barbolini and
Blake Mesenburg also lit the lamp for the RedHawks (5-7-2, 1-6-1 NCHC), who earned their first victory at UND (5-6-2, 2-3-1 NCHC) since January 2017.
Ludvig Persson made 33 stops in net to pick up the win for Miami.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 5:51 1st (Miami 1-0) | Miami got on the board first after Barbolini forced a UND turnover in the neutral zone. He quickly worked the puck to Waldron, who eluded a defender with some impressive stickhandling and ripped a shot over UND's Drew DeRidder for the opening goal of the game.
- 17:11 1st (Miami 2-0) | The RedHawks struck again on their first power play of the game. After an extended time of possession in the offensive zone, Waldron fed Axel Kumlin at the left point for a long-range blast that bounced off DeRidder. Barbolini was in the right place to knock home the rebound and make it 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
- 5:33 2nd (Miami 3-0) | Mesenburg scored for the second consecutive night to stretch the Miami lead to 3-0. Alex Murray fired a long shot that redirected off Jack Olmstead, and Mesenburg finished the play, forcing the Fighting Hawks to make a goaltender change.
- 15:37 2nd (UND 3-1) | North Dakota cut into the Miami lead with a power-play goal in the second period. Riese Gaber's shot bounced over to Chris Jandric, who fed it back to Gaber for a second opportunity. His goal made it 3-1, as Jackson Blake also picked up an assist on the play for the Fighting Hawks.
- 17:39 2nd (UND 3-2) | Two minutes later, UND tallied again to trim the lead to a single goal. After an extended battle along the boards, Louis Jamernik V gained control and sent a pass across to Ryan Sidorski. Persson was able to stop his shot but Gavin Hain got to the rebound on the opposite side and tipped it home.
- 5:06 3rd (UND 3-3) | The Fighting Hawks found an equalizer during a 4-on-4 stretch of the third period. Gaber got the puck off the stick of Sidorski and dished off to Blake on his right for a finish to the opposite corner of the net to level the score at 3-3.
- 14:34 3rd (Miami 4-3) | Clement gave Miami the lead back with a critical takeaway in the offensive zone. After Barbolini tipped the puck ahead toward the corner, Clement snatched it away from Jamernik and promptly deposited it into the net for the unassisted game-winning goal.
