AKRON, Ohio— In the second match of the weekend series Miami (7-21) lost in three-sets to Akron (6-22), 22-25, 23-25, 10-25.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
A service ace from Hayden Hicks and Caroline Cermack gave the RedHawks an early 4-1 lead. Akron closed within one at 6-5 and fought to stay in striking distance. A collection of kills kept the Zips away, although Akron later tied the set at 12-12. The Zips then pulled away by five points at 17-12. Miami stayed strong, coming from behind to tie the set at 18-18 and 19-19. A combination of kills from Lydia Harper and Allyson Severance sparked the offense. Despite the effort, Miami fell short, giving Akron a 25-22 set win.

There were eleven lead changes in what was a back-and-forth second set. After close gameplay, Miami managed to pull ahead by three at 8-5. Akron retook the lead at 10-9 and held onto a two-point lead at 15-13. A pair of Severance kills, a Harper service ace, and a Gentry Warrick kill gave Miami a 17-15 advantage. In the end, Akron stayed resilient and captured a 25-23 set win.

Harper started off the third set with a service ace to give Miami a 1-0 lead. The Red and White led 7-4 after back-to-back kills from Maggie McCrary, an attack error, and a Brooke Jackson service ace. The Zips went on to find their rhythm, finishing the set with a 25-10 win.
