Baseball Adds Four Signees

Miami University Baseball head coach Danny Hayden has announced the addition of four student-athletes to his program. Joining Miami Baseball are Garrison Barile, Greyson Chappel, Justin Gorski and Alex Pipes.

Garrison Barile

Garrison Barile, OF, 6'2", 200, Greenwood, Ind./
Center Grove

PRIOR TO MIAMI
  • Hit .487 with 43 RBI, 7 HR, and .639 OBP as a junior
  • Earned First Team All-State and First Team All-County as a junior
PERSONAL
  • Son of Anna and Jason Barile
  • Has a May birthday
Coach Hayden: "Garrison has the ability to be a monster at Miami. He is big, fast and physical. He is a great defensive outfielder, but what separates him from most others is what he is capable of in the batter's box. He hits for a very high average with very little swing and miss while still putting up big-time power numbers. I am confident that his work ethic and drive will have him in a position to push for a starting spot very early in his tenure with us. In addition to being physically very gifted, he also has the makeup you hope for as a coach. He can lead a group."

Greyson Chappel

Greyson Chappel, P, 6'8", 245, Shawnee, Kan./De Soto

PRIOR TO MIAMI
  • Serving as team captain his senior year
  • Honorable Mention All-Conference
  • Holds high school record for most saves in a single baseball season
  • Four-year basketball player, two-year varsity player
PERSONAL
  • Son of Kecia and Bret Chappel
  • Has a February birthday
Coach Hayden: "Greyson is exactly what we were looking for from a high school pitching prospect. He is a big physical guy with tremendous upside. He already throws hard, but it's easy to project a lot more velocity from this guy as he continues to focus on his development. Greyson has been constantly complimented by his coaches as a guy who likes the big moments. He really shines when he is out there competing. He also has proven to be the type of teammate that players gravitate to. He has a great personality. As Greyson continues to put in work and really commit himself to his baseball career, the sky is the limit."

Justin Gorski

Justin Gorski, MIF, 5'8", 160, Rockford, Ill./Rockford Christian

PRIOR TO MIAMI
  • Hit .447 with a .543 OBP and .632 SLG as a high school junior
  • Earned Conference Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference & First Team All-Area as a junior
  • Two-time All-Conference selection
PERSONAL
  • Son of Aylin and Bill Gorski
  • Has a November birthday
Coach Hayden: "Justin is a true throwback baseball player. The kid is tough. I think Justin will come in here and endear himself to his teammates immediately as they see how hard he works and the style in which he plays the game. He is a very twitchy player with enough arm to defend at shortstop. He has the versatility to play just about anywhere else on the field as well. At the plate, he has great strike zone awareness and very consistently works great at-bats, which is rare for young hitters. I am very excited to see how much work Justin puts in over the next few months before arriving on campus."

Alex Pipes

Alex Pipes, RHP, 6'2", 185, St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell High/Parkland College

PRIOR TO MIAMI
  • First-team All-Conference pitcher as a high school senior
  • Served as team captain his senior year
PERSONAL
  • Son of Sarah and Joey Pipes
  • Has an October birthday
Coach Hayden: "Very athletic pitcher that is just starting to realize his potential. We've seen him into the mid-90s with a devastating slider - a real out pitch at any level.  He's working hard with Coach Silkwood at Parkland and has recently been showing some promising signs of expanding his arsenal.  We feel he will be able to help us in a variety of roles, anywhere from starting games to closing them. He's going to be an aggressive guy that can generate a high number of swings and misses - he fits what we are trying to do perfectly."
