DeKALB, Ill.— The Miami RedHawks (6-11) lost a three-set match Saturday night against Northern Illinois University (13-4), 21-25, 13-25, 23-25.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The RedHawks scored the opening point of the first set thanks to a Maggie McCrary kill. The Huskies went on to respond, taking a 7-3 lead. Right after, a service ace from Brooke Cirigliano and kills from Brooke Jackson and Allyson Severance closed the lead to 8-6. After much back-and-forth between the teams, the RedHawks tied the game at 18-18. Northern Illinois would go on to close the set out 25-21.

The Huskies got off to a quick start in the second set, leading 8-3 early. Miami then answered with three straight points, two kills coming from Cirigliano and Ellie Hanson. The Red and White stayed within two as the set approached the halfway mark at 13-11. The Huskies then found their rhythm, finishing the set with a 25-13 win.

In the final set, a kill from Gentry Warrick and service ace from Margo Lawson tied the game at 4-4. Northern Illinois was then able to create some separation, going on a 13-6 run to take a 17-10 lead. The RedHawks then followed this with a run of their own, outscoring the Huskies 6-1 to close the gap within two. The fight did not end there; an attack error from Northern Illinois and back-to-back kills from Sylvia Koenig brought the RedHawks within one at 22-21. In the end, the Huskies were able to squeeze out a 25-23 win.
