Miami Drops First Match to Eastern Michigan

OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University RedHawks lost a three-set match Friday evening against Eastern Michigan, 26-28, 22-25, 11-25.

The RedHawks take on Eastern Michigan in their second match of the series Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. in Millett Hall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The RedHawks got off to a 3-0 start in the beginning of the first set. Eastern Michigan answered by tying the game at 6-6. Not long after, RedHawk Maggie McCrary responded with back-to-back kills to pull ahead 10-8. The Eagles hung around and were once again able to tie the game, this time at 16-16. Eastern Michigan built off this rhythm, taking a 19-16 lead over Miami. The RedHawks then stormed back; regaining the lead after recording seven straight points to bring the score at 23-19. Two kills from Ellie Hanson and a Gentry Warrick service ace sparked the 7-0 run. The Eagles finished out the set with a 28-26 win.
- Eastern Michigan took a 3-1 lead early in the second. Brooke Jackson then recorded two kills to help Miami take a 4-3 lead. The Eagles kept it close and eventually tied the match at 7-7. Eastern Michigan then scored four straight, attempting to pulll away The RedHawks stayed determined, coming within two points at 23-21. The effort came just short, as Eastern Michigan finished the set with a 25-22 win.
- The score was 2-2 as the third set began gameplay. The Eagles went on to score nine consecutive points to take an 11-2 lead. Eastern Michigan was able to build off this momentum and carry it forward throughout the set. Ultimately, the Eagles closed the set with a 25-11 win.
NOTES:
- Allyson Severance recorded a game-high 12 kills.
