Hamlett Fires Miami Past Ohio in First Round of MAC Tournament

ATHENS, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon, the Miami University's women's soccer team (9-4-6, 4-2-5 MAC) took down Ohio University (10-7-2, 6-4-1 MAC) by a 1-0 score line. The lone goal was scored by junior Taylor Hamlett and helped the RedHawks progress to the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • From a throw-in situation at the 15th minute mark, junior Camber Hayes fired a shot at the bottom left corner. The long-range attempt was saved.
  • In the 33rd minute, senior Jaimie Tottleben curled a left-footed shot towards the top right corner of the net. The ball deflected off of one and was cleared by another Ohio defender.
  • In the 74th minute, sophomore Makenna Morrison flicked sophomore Kylee Beinecke's cross on to the feet of Hamlett. The forward held off an Ohio defender, turned and fired a close-range shot to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead.
  • One minute later, a right-sided corner by Hayes found Morrison at the far post. Morrison fired a left-footed shot at the top left corner of the net but narrowly missed.

NOTES:
  • Beinecke was handed her 14th start of the season, her first since Miami hosted Western Michigan University, and has appeared in all 19 matches this season.
  • Senior Izzie Vaccari belted five saves to take her season's shutout total into double-digit territory.
  • Hamlett scored her third goal for the RedHawks, with her previous two coming against the University of Akron on senior day.
