No. 5 Miami Falls To No. 1 Buffalo, 1-0

BUFFALO, N.Y. – On Thursday afternoon, the Miami University's women's soccer team (9-5-6, 4-2-5 Mid-American Conference) fell to No. 1 University at Buffalo (14-1-4, 7-0-4 MAC) in the MAC Tournament semifinal by a 1-0 score line.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ten minutes into the match, junior Taylor Hamlett turned away from two Buffalo players, dribbled down the right flank before swinging the ball in for sophomore Sophia Cross. The Buffalo goalkeeper claimed the ball before Cross could make a header.
  • One minute later, sophomore Makenna Morrison blocked a clearance effort by Buffalo. Hamlett claimed the loose ball and took a shot but could not curl the ball past the goalkeeper.
  • Less than fifteen minutes from full-time, Buffalo broke the deadlock and took a 1-0 lead.
  • Into the final ten minutes, sophomore Sophia Cross caught a volley from the edge of the penalty box following a free kick clearance.
  • At the 81st minute, Hamlett eliminated a Buffalo defender with a body feint before firing a right-footed tight-angle shot from 15 yards out. As the Buffalo goalkeeper parried the attempt, Hamlett followed up but her effort was blocked.

NOTES:
  • Sophomore Kylee Beinecke claimed her 15th start of the season.
  • Hamlett led the Miami in shots with four attempts, three of which were on goal.
  • Senior Izzie Vaccari belted six saves over the course of the match.
  • Senior Emily Sexton and redshirt junior Madeline Schlecht were named to the 2022 MAC All-Tournament Team

UP NEXT:
The RedHawks conclude their 2022 season with a 9-5-6 overall record, 4-2-5 regular season record and advanced to the MAC Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2015, when they reached the final.
