Miami Hosts No. 3 Denver to Open NCHC Play

The Miami University hockey team welcomes defending national champion No. 3/3 Denver to Oxford to begin the conference schedule. Miami enters NCHC play with a 4-1-1 record on the year after last week's sweep at Canisius and is receiving votes in the DCU/USCHO.com poll for the first time since January 2019. The RedHawks recorded their first road sweep since Jan. 2-3, 2021 (at Western Michigan) and first non-conference road sweep since Jan. 2-3, 2015 (at RPI) with the pair of victories in Buffalo. The Pioneers are 4-2-0 after sweeping then-No. 11/9 Providence.

Both games this weekend will be streamed on NCHC.tv, with puck drop set for 7:05 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28 and 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena. Greg Waddell and Drew Davis will have the call. Audio broadcasts of the game will come from MiamiRedHawks.com Friday and WKBV 1490 AM (Richmond, Ind.) Saturday.

Denver leads the all-time series 26-13-3, including winning all six decisions a year ago. Miami is looking for its first win over DU in Oxford since Jan. 5, 2018.

Joe Cassetti (4-3-7) and Matthew Barbolini (3-4-7) currently share the RedHawks' scoring lead with seven points apiece. Red Savage (2-4-6) and Max Dukovac (1-5-6) are also averaging a point per game. Goaltender Ludvig Persson is 4-1-1 between the pipes with a .938 save percentage and 1.83 GAA and has made 23 consecutive starts in net for the Red and White dating back to last season.

Miami head coach Chris Bergeron and junior forward PJ Fletcher met with the media this week to preview the series against the Pioneers.
