OXFORD, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon, the Miami University's women's soccer team (8-4-6, 4-2-4 Mid-American Conference) took down Northern Illinois University (6-7-4, 3-5-2 MAC) with a 1-0 victory at Bobby Kramig Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- At the 16th minute mark, senior Kennedy Gray dribbled through the Northern Illinois defense and swung in a cross. Senior Emily Sexton headed it past the goalkeeper to open the scoring, 1-0 Miami.
- Four minutes from halftime, junior Camber Hayes took an in-swinging left-sided lick that got the Northern Illinois goalkeeper to punch the ball into the near post. Sophomore Mercedes Schroer collected the ball and attempted a shot but it was blocked.
- In the 65th minute, Hayes sent a right-sided corner towards the far post. Redshirt junior Madeline Schlecht headed it over the crossbar.
- Despite continuing to put pressure on the Huskies' goal, the RedHawks did not extend their lead and finished the game with a 1-0 victory.
NOTES:
- The RedHawks outshot the Huskies by 11-3 in the first half and 20-8 over the course of the match.
- Vaccari belted her ninth shutout of the season, as well as her career's 19th.
- Sexton collected her second career goal and Gray added her fifth career assist.
