OXFORD, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon, the Miami University women's soccer team (6-3-2, 2-1-1 Mid-American Conference) mounted a 2-1 comeback over the University of Akron (1-6-2; 0-4-0 MAC) on Senior Day.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the 16th minute, Akron scored with a shot from outside of the penalty area and took the lead, 1-0.
- Ten minutes later, junior Taylor Hamlett pressured an Akron goal kick. The Akron goalkeeper's attempt to clear the ball up field bounced off Hamlett for Miami's equalizer, leveling the game 1-1.
- In the 42nd minute, senior Kennedy Gray dribbled past three Akron defenders before curling in a shot at goal, forcing the Akron goalkeeper to stretch to the fullest to save.
- At the 80th minute mark, from the halfway line, Gray sent the ball into the final third for Hamlett. The junior held off an Akron defender, rounded the keeper and found the back of the net with a left-footed shot, completing the 2-1 comeback for Miami.
NOTES:
- Hamlett opened her account as a RedHawk with the equalizing goal.
- Miami outshot Akron 27-5, including 10 shots on target compared to Akron's two, as well as having 63% possession.
- Among the 27 shots registered, Hamlett accounted for nine shots while senior Emily Sexton contributed six.
