CC Gets Past Miami 4-3

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University hockey team was able to take three different one-goal leads in Saturday's series finale, but Colorado College scored the only goal of the final period to edge past the RedHawks 4-3 at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena.

Jack Olmstead, Joe Cassetti, and PJ Fletcher scored for Miami, while Ludvig Persson made 28 saves in net. The loss drops the RedHawks to 1-9-0 in the NCHC and 4-15-1 overall, while CC improves to 3-6-1 in the NCHC and 6-11-3 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 1:50 1st (Miami 1-0) | Miami took the lead with a goal less than two minutes into the first period. Grabbing the puck in CC's zone, John Sladic sent it to Olmstead in front of the net, with Olmstead finishing the play to put the RedHawks up 1-0.
  • 3:22 1st (CC 1-1) | CC answered back quickly, with passes from Chase Foley to Jackson Jutting setting up Hunter McKown in a two-on-one situation. McKown's shot leveled the score at 1-1.
  • 7:36 1st (Miami 2-1) | The RedHawks went back on top later in the period, with Derek Daschke freeing the puck from the boards and passing it ahead to Cassetti. Cassetti and Fletcher executed a perfect give-and-go, ending in Cassetti's go-ahead goal to give the Red and White a 2-1 lead.
  • 19:05 1st (CC 2-2) | The Tigers got the score tied up before the first intermission, with Bryan Yoon picking up the puck in Miami's zone and sending it to Ray Christy in front of the net, who slipped it past the RedHawks defense to end the first period at 2-2.
  • 11:03 2nd (Miami 3-2) | A series of penalties on both teams put Miami in a five-on-four situation, and the RedHawks capitalized to pull ahead once again. Daschke successfully battled to keep the puck in CC's zone, sending a diagonal pass across to Red Savage. Savage then fired back across to Fletcher on the far side of the goal for a one-timer blast. After review, the goal was confirmed, bringing the score to 3-2.
  • 11:35 2nd (CC 3-3) | CC responded in a matter of seconds, with Logan Will sliding the puck to Christy in front of Miami's net. It was then deflected back out to Nicklas Andrews, who sent it past Persson for the goal to make it 3-3.
  • 13:29 3rd (CC 4-3) | The Tigers would strike again in the third period to take their only lead of the game. A pass from Will to Jordan Biro brought the puck around the back of Miami's goal, with Christy taking control and hitting the back of the net for his second goal of the night and the final 4-3 margin.
