MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – The Miami University women's basketball team dropped a 70-59 decision on Wednesday evening to the Central Michigan Chippewas (4-17, 2-7 MAC).
Peyton Scott led the RedHawks (6-10, 2-5 MAC) with 23 points, while
Edyn Battle chipped in with 10.
How it Happened:
- Despite Scott's nine first quarter points, the RedHawks trailed 23-15 after 10 minutes of action.
- CMU extended their lead, 38-23 with 1:04 to play, but a Sydney Watkins free throw and four points in the final eight seconds of the half from Tajah Foster-Walker sent the RedHawks to the locker room trailing 38-28.
- After going scoreless in the first half, sophomore Katie Davidson scored eight points in the third quarter as the RedHawks trimmed the deficit to 54-46 entering the final stanza.
- A Vannessa Garrelts triple closed the gap, 56-54 with 6:02 to play, but a 12-0 run by the Chippewas ended the RedHawks comeback.
Game Notes:
- Sydney Watkins scored the first point of her career, a free throw late in the second quarter.
- Peyton Scott missed a free throw late in the contest, snapping a streak of 28 straight free throws.
