RedHawks Face Chippewas on Wednesday Night

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team looks to get back to its winning ways with a Wednesday evening tilt on the road at Central Michigan. Opening tip is slated for 7 p.m.

NEW YEAR, NEW RESULTS: The RedHawks are 6-9 on the year, already surpassing last year's win total (went 4-20 last season). Miami is 2-4 in conference play after going 3-17 a year ago.

BUSY SCHEDULE: With several postponements over the past few weeks, the RedHawks have a rather busy schedule coming up. The RedHawks are currently in the middle of a six-game stretch in a span of 13 days.

15-FOOT GIMMIE: Who wouldn't want a 15-foot gimmie putt in a round of golf? Well, over the past four contests the free throw line has nearly been a gimmie for the Red and White. After opening the season 83-125 (.664) from the foul line, Miami has converted on 36-of-41 (.891) over the past four contests. Peyton Scott (20-20) and Edyn Battle (9-9) have led the way from the foul line during that stretch.

REDHAWKS FALL SHORT AT BSU: After falling behind 49-31 midway through the third quarter, the Miami University women's basketball team made it a one-possession game, falling 67-64 to the Ball State Cardinals on Monday night. Peyton Scott had a game-high 23 points and added five rebounds and four assists. Maddi Cluse recorded her second career double-double, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Edyn Battle chipped in with 11 points.

BALANCING ACT: While Peyton Scott (18.0) is getting a majority of the offensive attention, Miami has a total of eight players averaging at least 3.7 points per game this season. Last year, just four RedHawks averaged over 4.0 points per game.

I "HALF" TO HAVE IT: Over the past five games, Peyton Scott has answered the bell in the second half. After averaging 3.6 points in the first half over her past five games, the junior has responded by averaging 12.0 points in the second half. In the last five games she has shot 19.5% (8-41) in the first half and 50% (18-36) in the second half.

NEW FACES, NEW PLACES: Miami has six additions to the RedHawks in 2021-22 that are contributing numbers to Miami's success. In all, Ivy Wolf, Maddi Cluse, Edyn Battle, Tajah Foster-Walker, Jordan Tuff and Katey Richason are combining for 35.4 points and 18.4 rebounds per game.

ABOUT CENTRAL MICHIGAN: The Chippewas are 3-14 on the year and 1-7 in MAC play, which includes six-straight conference losses. Molly Davis is tops on the team at 19.2 points per game, while Jahari Smith averages a double-double (10.6 ppg., 10.6 rpg.).

SERIES WITH THE CHIPPEWAS: This will be the 68th meeting between the two schools with CMU holding a slight 35-32 all-time advantage. CMU has won 13 of the last 14 contests, with Miami's last road win coming back on Jan. 16, 2019.

GREAT SCOTT: Junior guard Peyton Scott has accomplished more than most through just over two years of play.
• Has scored 1,164 points and ranks 20th all-time on Miami's scoring list.
• She currently ranks seventh in the MAC in scoring (18.0), 15th in rebounding (6.1), eighth in assists (4.1) and ninth in steals (1.8).
• Has made 23-straight free throws.
• Last season alone, she scored 30-plus points in five different games, including 39 versus Ball State, a new Millett Hall record.
• She had a stretch last season from Feb. 3-Feb. 13 in which she scored 30-plus points in four straight games, the first RedHawk in school history to accomplish such a feat.
• In her last 44 contests, Scott has more 30 point games (5) then under 10 point games (3).
• She has scored in double figures in 37 of her last 39 contests.

GOING TO BATTLE: Over Miami's last 11 games, the RedHawks have started to lean more on Edyn Battle. Battle, who played just one game a year ago before suffering a season-ending injury, has surpassed double-digits seven different times in her last 11 games, including a  career-high 18 points in the win over Ohio last Monday.
