RedHawks Head to Ball State For Monday Night Tilt

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team looks to get back to its winning ways with a Monday evening tilt on the road at Ball State. Opening tip is slated for 6:30 p.m.

NEW YEAR, NEW RESULTS: The RedHawks are 6-8 on the year, already surpassing last year's win total (went 4-20 last season). Miami is 2-3 in conference play after going 3-17 a year ago.

BUSY SCHEDULE: With several postponements over the past few weeks, the RedHawks have a rather busy schedule coming up. The RedHawks are currently in the middle of a six-game stretch in a span of 13 days.

15-FOOT GIMMIE: Who wouldn't want a 15-foot gimmie putt in a round of golf? Well, over the past three contests the free throw line has nearly been a gimmie for the Red and White. After opening the season 83-125 (.664) from the foul line, Miami has converted on 31-of-33 over the past three contests. Peyton Scott (12-12) and Edyn Battle (9-9) have led the way from the foul line.

MIAMI COMEBACK FALLS SHORT VERSUS WMU: The Miami women's basketball team rallied from a 22-point deficit with just over 10 minutes remaining to pull within two points on three separate occasions, but the visiting Western Michigan Broncos held on for a 63-54 win at Millett Hall on Saturday afternoon. Peyton Scott scored all 17 of her points in the second half to lead the RedHawks, while Edyn Battle added 15 points and Ivy Wolf chipped in 11 with five assists.

DON'T COUNT THEM OUT: In each of the past three contests, the RedHawks erased fourth-quarter deficits. Miami trailed 42-40 versus Ohio (outscored OU by five in fourth quarter) and 43-42 against NIU (outscored NIU by six in fourth quarter), both conference wins. The RedHawks nearly erased a 22-point fourth quarter deficit versus the Broncos on Saturday, closing to within a single bucket.

BALANCING ACT: While Peyton Scott (17.6) is getting a majority of the offensive attention, Miami has a total of eight players averaging at least 4.0 points per game this season. Last year, just four RedHawks averaged over 4.0 points per game.

I "HALF" TO HAVE IT: Over the past four games, Peyton Scott has answered the bell in the second half. After averaging 2.5 points in the first half over her past four games, the junior has responded by averaging 11.3 points in the second half. In the last four games she has shot 12.5% (4-32) in the first half and 53.6% (15-28) in the second half.

NEW FACES, NEW PLACES: Miami has six additions to the RedHawks in 2021-22 that are contributing numbers to Miami's success. In all, Ivy Wolf, Maddi Cluse, Edyn Battle, Tajah Foster-Walker, Jordan Tuff and Katey Richason are combining for 36.2 points and 18.4 rebounds per game.

ABOUT BALL STATE: The Cardinals are 10-7 on the year and 3-4 in MAC play, which includes a 57-45 win over Central Michigan on Saturday. Anna Clephane (16.2) and Thelma Dis Agustsdottir (10.8) lead the way offensively for a unit that is third in the MAC with just 14.0 turnovers per contest.

SERIES WITH THE CARDINALS: This will be the 70th meeting between the two schools with Miami leading the all-time series 40-29. Ball State has won each of the last three contests and are 19-13 all-time in Muncie.

GREAT SCOTT: Junior guard Peyton Scott has accomplished more than most through just over two years of play.
• Has scored 1,141 points and ranks 21st all-time on Miami's scoring list.
• She currently ranks eighth in the MAC in scoring (17.6), 15th in rebounding (6.2), seventh in assists (4.1) and eighth in steals (1.9).
• Last season alone, she scored 30-plus points in five different games, including 39 versus Ball State, a new Millett Hall record.
• She had a stretch last season from Feb. 3-Feb. 13 in which she scored 30-plus points in four straight games, the first RedHawk in school history to accomplish such a feat.
• In her last 44 contests, Scott has more 30 point games (5) then under 10 point games (3).
• She has scored in double figures in 36 of her last 38 contests.

GOING TO BATTLE: Over Miami's last 10 games, the RedHawks have started to lean more on Edyn Battle. Battle, who played just one game a year ago before suffering a season-ending injury, has surpassed double-digits six different times in her last 10 games, including a  career-high 18 points in the win over Ohio last Monday.
