OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami women's basketball team rallied from a 22-point deficit with just over 10 minutes remaining to pull within two points on three separate occasions, but the visiting Western Michigan Broncos held on for a 63-54 win at Millett Hall on Saturday afternoon.
Peyton Scott scored all 17 of her points in the second half to lead the RedHawks (6-8, 2-3 MAC), while
Edyn Battle added 15 points and
Ivy Wolf chipped in 11 with five assists. WMU (10-4, 4-1 MAC) was led by Taylor Williams' 18 points and 15 boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Broncos scored the first eight points of the game to take an early lead, settling for a 14-8 advantage at the end of the first period.
- After a Wolf three-pointer pulled Miami within 18-15 midway through the second quarter, WMU ended the half on a 9-0 run to lead 27-15 at the break.
- Western Michigan extended the advantage to 48-26 in the final minute of the third quarter before the RedHawks began their comeback.
- Miami ripped off a 24-4 run to close the gap to 52-50 on a Battle three-point play with 3:42 left, and Scott's free throws at the 1:50 mark made it 56-54 WMU, but the RedHawks' comeback bid ultimately came up just short.
NOTES
- Miami was 12-13 from the foul line; over the last three games, the RedHawks are 93.9% at the charity stripe (31-33).
- Tajah Foster-Walker blocked a career-high three shots.
- The RedHawks outscored Western Michigan 26-15 in the fourth quarter.
- Battle scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half.
